SOUTH CALGARY HOCKEY HOUSE LEAGUE (SCHHL)

The Flames Community House League is a partnership between the Calgary Flames organization, Hockey Calgary and our member associations.  The goal is to provide recreational players the opportunity to play organized hockey that is affordable, fun and safe with moderate time commitments allowing for participation in other social, academic or recreational activities. It also provides players with limited skills and knowledge an introduction to the game in a less intimidating format. The program is regionally based, offers participants a chance to play the great game of hockey with less time and travel commitments.

Southwest Hockey is excited to be part of this league in conjunction with; Bow Valley, Knights & Wolverines.

Southwest Hockey follows Hockey Calgary's rule that no fundraising or cash calls are permitted in House League. While Hockey Calgary allows teams to organize optional social or team-building events, each 'home' Member Club within the SCHHL may apply stricter rules regarding out-of-pocket costs.

Southwest Hockey maintains a fully cost-controlled House League by ensuring teams do not request or require any additional payments from families. Informal, no-cost activities (such as going to the ODR) are still welcome, but participation must remain optional and families should not be asked to contribute money towards team-organized events.

Families looking for a program that includes additional team events, and activities at added costs may find that the Community League is a better fit.

HOUSE LEAGUE OPERATIONS GUIDE

This document is updated by Hockey Calgary on a yearly basis. The Operations Guide covers such topics as:

WHAT PROGRAM IS RIGHT FOR ME?

U9 & U11 have a choice to register in the Community League OR House League. There are a number of factors that contribute to making a decision of what program is right for you as a family. The main factors to consider are:

Volunteer Bond

Participation in this program is mandatory of registration with Southwest Hockey.

INTERESTED IN COACHING?

Our House League teams need coaches from the parent group each season. Experience isn't necessary. With the required certifications and a willingness to learn, interested parents can take on a coaching role. Stepping in helps ensure every team has the coaching it needs for a positive season.
