Coach EVALUATION SUPPORT - 2026/2027

Coaches help ensure evaluations run smoothly, safely, and consistently across all groups. Their presence supports drill flow, fairness, and organization during both Pathway Skates and formal evaluation sessions.

PATHWAY SKATES

Pathway Skates help players get back on the ice and introduce the Eval 1 Skills drills.

Coaches assist with drill setup, flow, and maintaining a positive, neutral environment.

ON-ICE ROLES DURING EVALUATIONS

Coaches may support several evaluation components:

  • Goalie Skills (shooters)

  • Eval 1 Skills (full‑day consistency requested)

  • 3v3 / Skills sessions

  • Scrimmages (bench support, equal ice time, no coaching)

  • Final Evaluation Game (bench, Officials provided)

OFF-ICE EVALUATOR ROLEs

Coaches may be utilized to evaluate any age group EXCEPT the one their child(ren) plays in.

  • You CANNOT evaluate the age group your player is in (e.g. if you have a registered U11 participant, you CANNOT evaluate any U11 sessions).
  • Although we ensure we always have enough 3rd party evaluators at each session, we encourage coaches to evaluate to better understand the process/criteria and to get more evaluations of each participant.
  • U7 & House League is ONLY evaluated SHA. There is no official participant ranking. Participants are sorted purely to ensure equal skill teams across these Age Divisions.

neutrality & conduct expectations

Evaluators should follow a strict code of ethics to ensure fairness, neutrality, and consistency. This includes confidentiality, impartial scoring, and adherence to Association standards throughout the evaluation process.

Coaches must remain neutral:

  • No coaching individual players

  • No feedback to parents

  • No discussing player performance

  • Maintain professionalism on and off the ice

participation expectation

Coaches are encouraged to complete eight (8) evaluation ice times, as outlined in the email/link that will be provided by the Director of Coaches.

When all factors are equal in the Coach Selection Process, preference may be given to applicants who have fulfilled these evaluation expectations.

If a coach is not selected for a rostered position, completing all eight (8) ice times WILL COUNT towards the two (2) credits in the Bonus Opportunity and will fulfill the family's Volunteer Bond commitment.

sign-up PROCESS

Evaluation sign‑up sheets are released in stages and will be emailed Direction from either the Director or Assistant Director of Coaches.

Coaches are asked to sign up where they can and check back regularly as additional sessions are added.

Off‑ice evaluator links may be provided separately.
